After speying

Question
I had my rescued Cyprus Poodle speyed yesterday, but I am not 100% happy with the way she is.

After 24 hours I would have expected her to be a bit more lively, but she is trembling and just staying in her bed.  I also noticed that there is blood in her urine - is this normal?

Unfortunately she had to be spayed at the beginning of a season due to the fact that she only had her last one in October and I was leaving it to this month hoping she would be in the middle of her cycle when all of a sudden the local stud was following us around and it was hard enough keeping him away last time, let alone have to go through another couple of weeks of it so soon hence the decision was taken out of my hands.

She is approximately one and a half years old (or so I was told by the shelter), although my opinion is she is only coming up to a year now - very puppy like behaviour normally so for her to stay in her bed is so unlike her - I know she is hurting but what can I give her to stop her being in pain.  She has eaten - well I hand fed her as I did not like the idea of her having no food since Thursday.  She literally was still under the anaesthetic all yesterday so possibly still is groggy, but the worrying thing is blood when she is having a wee so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
No the blood is not normal.  However, it is not normal to spay a female in season because of possible complications.  Different anesthetics work differently.  When I had puppy spayed last January, she seemed confused and still wasn't right the next day.  I asked my vet, since thelast puppy I had spayed hit the ground running when I picked her up in the afternoon.  He explained what he is using now is safer, but it takes the dogs longer to recover.

I think the blood is a problem, but maybe one that can wait until Monday.
