Recent Skin Problem

Question
I have a seven year old red standard poodle. She has recently developed a skin condition that the Vet thought may be allergies. We have changed up her food and have not had any luck.

The problem is that she is loosing her hair! it started on the back of her neck and on her back from her tail to about 3/4 of the way to her neck. She does have a fair amount of dandruff as well.

After some research I feel that it could be SA or Cushings (she does vomit every couple of weeks or so), but does not have the rest of the symptoms.

What can I do to know for sure? any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks Rich

Answer
Your vet will have to do a skin biopsy for the SA and send it off to a lab.  It sounds like SA to me not cushings.  The vomiting could be something that is totally unrelated. It needs to be done ASAP!  So that you can start treating it.  Cushings would have to be diagnosed with a blood test I believe it is.  So you will need to get in to your vet right away and have some tests run.
Once you have the diagnosis back you need to let the breeder of your poodle know.  Yes even though its been 7 years.  There are also websites out there that the reports can be sent to such as OFA.  THis helps the rest of us breeders know what bloodlines to watch for problems.
