a skin rash

Question
3 weeks ago my standard poodle was groomed. I noticed that he was getting some sort of black skin on the back of his legs and stomach and it keeps getting worse but he is not irritated by it. Should I take him to the vet or can I treet it by my self?

Answer
How closely was he groomed?  If he was taken down very short what you are seeing is probably just his skin and not anything to worry about.  Light colored poodles usually have light colored skin UNTIL the sun hits it and it is exposed to ultraviolet light.  This will turn the skin dark livery black color.  This is normal.  If there is no flaking or scratching or blistering then there is no rash.  If in the future he becomes sensitive to it and scratches that would be the time to take him to the vet and see if he has a skin condition.
