When to neuter?

Question
We are receiving very different advice concerning what age to neuter our standard poodle puppy. Our vet has advised us to neuter him between 6-7 months, while our breeder has advised us to neuter him no earlier than a year, and preferably at 18 months. Why do they have different thoughts on this, and what is the best age, in your opinion? thanks!

Answer
Neuter the sooner the better.  Its probably cause your breeder has been misinformed and thinks (as a lot of people do) that it will harm the dog in some way.  That is absolutely NOT true.  I personally like males neutered anywhere from 8 weeks to 4 months.  However most vets wont do it that early due to size.  If your vet will do it at 6 months then do it then.  It will not harm your dogs size, it wont harm your dogs growing, it will not harm your dogs ability to urinate, it will not harm your dog in anyway.  Infact it will reduce the risk of getting testicular cancer and if done young it will reduce the chances of your male lifting their leg to mark their territory.
