QuestionI purchased two 18 wk. old male miniature poodle puppies from the same litter this week. I was told that they were miniatures and would grow to be 13" tall. After they were delivered to me, I see that at 4 1/2 months of age, their little legs are only 4" at the very most, from the bottom of their tummy area to the ground, probably more like 3 - 3 1/2". I really would like them to be at least double their present height when they're full grown. Do you think they may grow another 4-5 inches in their legs, or do you think I was just told that these were miniatures when they were toys? The people knew that I was settled on the miniature size and wouldn't consider any other size. I guess what I'm asking is how much of their growing would they have behind them by 4 1/2 months of age? I thank you for your response.

AnswerI wouldn't count on them doubling their size at 4 months. I have never seen an authoritative answer on this point. There was a discussion of dogs in general at another website recently. No 2 people seemed to seeing the results. My conclusion is that perhaps the bigger a dog is going to get, the longer it takes. The larger breeds continue to grow even past a year. Feel their ankles. If they are still quite knobby, they are still growing.
