Question
In trying to get parti pups, can I breed a parti male to a chocolate female and get parti colors?  Will I get 1 or 2?  Or should I purchase a parti female?

Answer
To get piebalds both parents have to carry the piebald (spotted parti) gene.  So if there are no known piebalds in your brown females lines then you will not get piebalds. You can do research on your females lines to find out.  I would check out poodlepedigree.com site to see if your females pedigree is there.  Remember to also check for siblings and not just sire and dams.  If only one dog carries the piebald gene and the other does not, you will usually get all mismarks/abstracts.  And whereas they are technically a parti since parti just means more than one color, they are not technically a piebald.  It would be some of those puppies that should then carry for the piebald gene.
