Puppy Color Change

Question
I have a 15 week old toy poodle puppy (currently blue), and would like to know how long it takes for his color to completely change. His dad is a really light silver, and his mom is a black and white parti.  He was sold as a silver, but since his breeders are new to poodles, there not sure what color he is going to be as an adult.  Can you tell me when I will know what color he will be as an adult?

Answer
Hi Ellen,
It sounds like your going to have a silver puppy to me.  Without actually seeing your puppy, I am having to give you an educated guess here but chances are he will be silver.  If you split his coat and look down to the new growth you will see his new coloring as it comes in.  As he grows, and his coat grows his color will grow out.  He won't have his adult coat for some time so he will appear almost two toned for a while.  His face area and feet will change quickest because of the grooming we do to those areas.  Keep us posted on how his color develops.  I'm sure other readers will also find this interesting.  If you wanted to take a photo of him and of his hair coat split down to the skin so I can have a good look I would be happy to take a look and I would be able to give you a much better idea BUT with that said I'm betting on silver.  They happen to be one of my favorites - the silver and white parties are also on the top of my list ;0)  I hope this helped and if you want to forward me photos I'd love to see your baby.

Have a great night~
