Question
I have a 4 year old spayed female poodle who started licking her pee pee continuously. We are going on day 3 and need an answer to why this would be happening. She doesn't not have fleas, the area is not swollen but it is red and a little area is raw from the licking. Please help.

Answer
Hello Janet,
I am not sure what may be causing this, but I know that it will turn into a vicious cycle of it being red and itchy and her licking to help ease the itching and this will lead to more redness and itching.

It could be a vaginal/yeast infection that is causing her to lick, or some other form of irritation.  You can try a 5 day vaginal yeast infection cream to see if that helps, but before you do, check to see if she is drinking more frequently, peeing more frequently, and if you can see it, what her urine looks like.  If she has an infection, her urine may be thick, cloudy, darker, or have an infection-type smell.

You might take her to the Vet if you aren't sure what is causing this.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
