Question
Hello,
We recently had our standard poodle neutered, about 3 weeks ago.The area seemed to heal normally and all looked ok,
Now though I see slight swelling and redness, should I contact my vet.

Answer
Hi Shirley :-)

Has your Poodle been licking or biting the area where the operation as performed or the stitches are? If he has, then this is most likely why there is redness and some swelling.

It is possible he may have a mild infection in this area. I would contact your Vet to let him know of your concerns and whether he will need to see your Dog.

Meanwhile, wash the area 2 times a day with anti-bacterial soap and dry the area thoroughly. This will help to kill any bacteria or fungus present which can cause infection.

Also, purchase some Sudocrem Cream from your Pharmacist and apply this to the affected area 2 times a day. This will help with the itching, redness and discomfort.

If there is no improvement within 5-7 days, see your Vet for some cream and antibiotics.

Take care & all the best & please leave me a comment.
