Question
My wife & I have a pure bred papered toy poodle we would like to breed for the 1st time. She is aprox 5 years old. Is she too old to start the breeding process?  Her overall health has been checked by a vet and she is healthy enough to breed. If we breed her to a pure bred papered Cocker will they produce cock-a-poos?

Answer
Hello Monte,
If your female has been sucessfully Vet checked and has come home with a Clean bill of health, I see no reason that she can't be bred and carry a litter of puppies to term.  5 is not very old for a Toy Poodle, just keep her on a healthy diet and give her good care throughout her pregnancy.

As to breeding her with a Cocker Spainel, you will need to take into account her size VS the Cockers size.  Since she is a Toy Poodle, she will most likely be smaller than the male and that could cause problems with the birthing process.  I would check with your Vet to be on the safe side, and have his number handy as her due date would draw near so that if she expirences complications, you would best be able to get ahold of someone.
Yes, the outcome of breeding a Poodle to a Cocker are CockaPoo's.  However, I have groomed several Cocker X Toy Poodle crosses, and what seems to happen is you get a larger Cocker body, with smaller Toy Poodle legs and small Toy Poodle faces.  The poor little legs have to support the larger Cocker body, and it puts stress on the dog.  If you do decide to breed to a Cocker, please make sure that the male is small.  You will want to try to find a dog that is closer in size to your girl.  It will benefit both the female and the puppies.

I hope this has helped you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
