Question
Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply. I apologize, I could not send this with the original question or answer, as it was too many characters.

He is about 8 years old (we aren't positive exactly how old but that is a close estimate). He is neutered.

I know that the lady in the nursing home had asked about him a couple of times, but my boyfriends aunt was hesitant to say we would bring him to visit because it would be hard for her-I was hesitant to say we would, because I thought it would be hard on our dog.

It won't be confusing to see her after a year and then take him away again? How often would you recommend we take him to visit her?

We do spend a lot of time petting him, playing with him, even just cuddling with him which he loves. My boyfriend works from home most of the time, and is usually only gone 4-5 hours in the morning and is home the rest of the day.

I read the using vinegar/water will remove the smell from the carpet-is this what you recommend? We are also having the carpets steam cleaned next week.

We will definitely look into some books and articles on being top dog.

Thanks for your help,
Abby

Answer
Our retired dog guide sees her old partner a couple times a month.  The apartment complex she lives in doesn't allow pets.  She did appeal to management to allow her retired dog to visit.  It is great for us, we have a sitter available anytime we need one for the dog.  So visit as much as you want to.

I am afraid the vinegar and water may convince him he needs to mark it again.  You might hold off on the steam cleaning until the problem is resolved as long as the house is OK.
