Question
Hi Keisha,

I own a standard poodle that is 4 months old.  She has been scratching since day one.  I bought some type of "stuff" from the pet store to put on her food, but that didn't seem to agree with her stomach.  I also had her groomed for the second time last Saturday and she is now pulling out the hair on her sides and rear end.

Our vet says it's dry skin not allergies.  Do you have any suggestions on what I can do for this dog?

Thank you.

Answer
Skin problems are very hard to diagnosis without seeing it and I am not a vet.  You could try changing her brand of dog food.  Often time food allergies will cause itching and skin issues.  I would also be very concerned about a genetic issue called Sabaceous Adentitis.  This can be tested for with a skin punch or biopsy.  Your vet can help you out with this, but try switching her food first and see how that works.
