Question
is it true that toy poodles need assistance when they mate, hold her head and tail up, and do male poodles act aggressively until the female comes off heat.

Answer
Hello Terry,
All dogs are different when breeding.  Most dogs do very well by themselves during the Breeding process, but sometimes a male will get over-excited, and will need to be guided to the right spot.  More often than not, its the females that get more aggressive towards the males rather than the males towards the females.  If this happens, you can either hold the females head or muzzle her during the process.  You shouldn't need to hold her tail up in most cases.  When the female gets excited and the male sniffs her valva, she will shoot her tail straight up in the air.  She will then hold her tail up and to the side to allow the male access to her valva.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other breeding questions or other Poodle questions in general, please feel free to ask.
