Expecting female

Question
My female just got out of heat. She and my male "got together" often. Since then, she stays cold alot and just hasn't been herself.
How can I tell if she is expecting?
Is there a test or something?

Answer
Hello Tinker,
Did you actually see your two dogs in a "tie"?  A tie is completed when the males penis swells inside the female, locking them together.  This is when the male injects the sperm into the female.  If he just mounts the female then jumps off, the chances of a pregnancy are slim.
If your male did complete the tie, then you should expect puppies within 63 days of the first breeding.

There are a couple of things you can do to tell if your dog is pregnant.  You can purchase a pregnancy test that I think will tell (so I have heard but I have never tried it), and I think you can only use it in the last month.
You can also start to take her tempature twice a day starting around the 55th day.  Record her tempature to get her average (a dogs normal temp is around 101.5), and when it drops to around 98.0-98.2 she will have puppies within 24 hours.
A females nipples will become hard as they become ingorged with milk.  Within 2-3 days before she is due, there will be a waxy covering on her nipples.  This is called "Waxing" and means that she will have puppies very soon.
Some females also get very lovey dovey and just want to cuddle.  They will also start to look for places to have their puppies and will build nests.
You will need to make a place for her and make sure she is comfortable with it, unless you want her having puppies in your bed or on your couch.  :)

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.  If she does have puppies and you have any questions about how to handle puppies, please ask me.

Have a great day, and Many "Cuddley" Tail Wags.
