Question
I have a poodle he is 6 months old, and he won't stop moving and playing around at night, what should I do?

Answer
Hello Nieves,
Actually it sounds like your 6 month old Poodle Puppy is being just that, a puppy.  He should start to slow down some around 1-2 yrs of age.
Here are some things you can do now to help keep him calm at night.

Play with him during the day.  Take him out and play fetch with him, or take him on a long walk twice a day.  You need to do things with him that will ware him out so that he wants to sleep at night.
I assume that you probably work days and that he just sleeps in a crate or area during the time you are away.  This is why he gets so active at night.  He is puppy and has alot of energy.  Since you are away during the day, all he has to do is sleep.  When you come home is when he thinks its time to play.

Be sure to feed him his last meal of the day eariler in the evening.  Maybe around 7pm and no later than two hours before you go to bed.  Also, hold water from him during the night, not only will it help him calm down, but he won't have a full bladder either.

Try to do things that will calm him down before you go to bed.  Don't try to play with him an hour before your bedtime and expect him to just calm down also.  Take this time to pet him and relax with him.  Not only will this help calm him, but it is great for improving the bond between him and you.  Make sure you have taken him outside before bed and keep his atmosphere as quiet as possible.

You might also look into Obedience classes with him.  Poodles are number 1 in Trainability because they love to please their people.  Poodles love to learn and Obedience will make him a more acceptable house dog.  Check your local Yellow pages or see if your Vet or Groomer has any recommendations.  Not only do Poodles love Obedience, but it is also fun for their human also.

If your Poodle seems to just be overly hyper at nighttime, and the suggestions above don't seem to put a damper in his activity, then you should see your Vet about calming medications that he can administer.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.
Have a great evening and Many "Restful" Tail Wags.
