Question
Dear Kathryn, I have a 7 1/2 year old female, large toy poodle. Typical poodle she has always been very bouncy and one that jumps in the air at the slightest thing.
A couple of weeks ago she jumped in the air and seemed to twist herself, she gave the most awful screams. She settled down after a short time but I rang the vet. It was in the evening and I took his advise to try and keep her quiet and see how she was in the morning,(she was walking around.)
She came right in a couple of days.
A week later it happened again and I took her straight to the vet. He gave her an anti inflammatory injection and also some anti flam. suspension. His thinking was perhaps a pulled muscle or back.
It took several days for her to come right that time.
Six days later it has happened again to a lesser extent.
Do you think it could be a pinched nerve?
Have you had this happen to any of your poodles and what advise can you give me. I am finding this very distressing and wish I knew of any way I can help her.
Many thanks,  Kath.

Answer
The only thing I can think of would be maybe she is getting arthritis or something??? I have had poodles that do get pain in their joints.  Mine are big babies and cry at anything, so I keep children's aspirin (I'm sure they call it something else, but that's essentially what it is) around.  I put one in something they like (cheese, sausage) and it's a treat for them - it also tends to help them move easier with less pain.

I'm not sure this is what you need, but it is worth a try.  I wish you luck with your baby.  She sounds like a sweetie.
