What should I do when my mini poodle cying alllllll night long?

Question
I have a 8 weeks old mini poodle, arrived at my home 6 days ago. I work in front of my computer in the family room during the day time so he spends his time with me in the family room also. But he has his own room. I put a nice bed and food and water in one side, and potty pads in the other side of his room. But once I put him in his own room and leave him alone when it is time for bed, he starts crying and never never stop all night long. There is no way I can have him sleep in my bedroom by the way.
Please please help me and help him!!
Thank you so much!!

Answer
Hello Sarah,
There are a number of things you can do to help your puppy sleep through the night in his own room.  The problem is that he doesn't like being alone.  When he was with his brothers and sisters, he had them to sleep with.  Then he gets taken away from them and gets put in a room all by himself to sleep and he is not comfortable with it yet.
First off, think about getting him a crate to sleep in rather than a large open room.  In a crate, he will feel more secure and it will make him think he is sleeping in a den.   You can also sleep in an old tee shirt for a few days then give it to him.  It will have your scent on it and will make him feel better because it will be like you are in there with him.  You can also leave a radio or TV on for him to give him some noise on concentrate on.  If you have a warm water bottle, you can put that under a blanket in his crate to give him something warm to sleep on.  It mimics his mothers belly that he would snuggle into.  I always put a larger stuffed animal in my puppys crate so he/she could snuggle up against it.  I would walk by and the puppy would be nestled up against the stuffed animal sleeping contently.
DON'T USE A HEATING PAD OR OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WITH YOUR NEW PUPPY.  YOUR PUPPY COULD GET AHOLD OF THE WIRES AND COULD HURT HIMSELF OR BURN DOWN THE HOUSE.

You might also try to play with him about an hour before his bedtime.  This will help ware him out so that he is ready to sleep.  Be sure to pull his water up about 2 hours before his bedtime, and that he has eaten about 2 hours before his bedtime.  Also, make sure he has emptied his bladder and bowels so that he doesn't have to potty during the night.  These things should be done before bedtime and if you can get him into a routine, he will learn that these things precede him going to bed.

Above all else, don't go to him when he is crying or fussing.  If you do, he will learn that to get you to come to him (even if you come to him in anger), all he needs to do is cry and whine.  You need to wait until he is quiet before going to him.  Also, make him sit down before picking him up or petting him.  That way, he won't get all excited and jump on you when you open the door.  You want him to sit and wait for you to pet him, so start having him do it early.

Give these things a try and if you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask me.
