Question
Hi! I have a 2 yrs old poodle mix and after giving it a hair cut myself, it became very quiet, his tail would be kept sideways every time it walks and he would sit all the time, since I don't have any experience in grooming at all.. i did not express his anal gland. I am very worried since he is not as social and he didnt eat alot these few days, neither did he pooped..i was wondering if I should bring him to a vet?

thanks!!

Answer
Hello Gloria,
Sorry the delayed response, my computer has been down.
What probably happened is that you got close when you shaved around his rear end and he may be a bit sensitive in that area.  Even though its been a couple of days, you might look back there and make sure that he isn't red or sore around his anus.  If it looks red or irritated, you can put some triple antibotic on it to help.
When you groom yourself, you need to be careful around the face, feet and tail the first few times.  The skin in these areas are more sensitive in these areas and will more likely get razor burn than other areas.  When shaving these areas, you need to make sure that your blades are cool and that when you finish trimming an area, that you apply lotion to that area.  That way, it will be less likely to burn or scab.

I hope he is doing better now, and if you would like some suggestions or grooming tips, or have other Poodle questions in general, please feel free to ask me.
