Question
gretchen blue or silver
gretchen blue or silve
Hi ,
I bought a black (so I thought ) standard poodle puppy. However, her face has started to turn silver. I am a groomer and I am aware that  black puppies could change color so I have not registered her yet. I was hoping you may be able to give me an educated guess as to what color she may be. She is 13 weeks old  now. I will attach a few pics so you have some different views to compare. My husband wanted black , I have always wanted silver but we love her to pieces no matter what she is. If I send a picture with my candy girl then Gretchen ( the black ?) one is younger like 9 weeks
Thank you for looking  I tried uploading more than one this site won't let me. Sorry. I have a ton of pics though. They are children to me. If you need more to compete I will send them

Answer
Hello Susie,
Feel free to send me as many pics of Gretchen to my e-mail as you would like.  Its MsTopkdog@yahoo.com

Gretchen looks like a Black to me, but she could be a Black whos parents are Silver, Blue or even Cream, rather than Black.  A Black that is line bred black is called a True Black, and doesn't have any other colors in its background.  Your dog looks black to me, because even though the skin looks Blueish, the hair is really dark.  Another good place to look to see if your dog could be turning color, is in-between her toes.  The face and toe hair is the first to turn and you can usually see it from about 8-12 weeks or so.
If your dog was Blue, you would see Brown highlights in the hair.  When you send me pics of Gretchen, I will send you a Pic of my Riot, a Blue Standard, at around 4 months.  You can see his Brown tinted hair really well.

Go ahead and send me some more pictures of Gretchen and I will take a better look at her.
If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask here or you can e-mail me.
