liver disease in my toy poodle

Question
Hi Kim,
I have a little toy poodle that has been diagnosed with liver disease.  I am feeding her Hill's Prescription Diet l/d.  I am wondering if there is a recipe for dog food that I can feed her instead of this canned or dry food.  She is hungry ALL the time too!  Is there a recipe for treats?  Also, she seems to be much more anxious, she barks about every little thing.  Is there anything I can do about that?  She is a very sweet pet and a loyal companion.  I have been suffering with a very bad back and she rarely leaves my side.
Thank you for your time!
Laurie

Answer
Hello Laurie,
Sorry to hear about your dogs diagnosis.
These are some questions that I am not really trained to answer.  Your better bet would be to go to your Vet (or if you want an unbiased opinion, call other Vets that are listed) because he knows your dogs conditions and can tell you what will help her the best.
He will also be able to tell you if you can leave food down for her all the time, or if it is better if she eats regular small meals.
You can also ask your Vet if the medicines she is on is making her anxious.  He might be able to change what she is taking or give her something to help calm her some.
As for the Barking, try to redirect her when she barks.  Play with her with her toys, or pet her for awhile****Make sure that she isn't barking when you pet her**** to distract her from barking.  Praise her when she is quiet.
