Question
Went to see my new 8 wk old mini poodle. Just a visit. Two females in litter. Breeder said the other female did not pass her vet check because of "short legament in rear leg" It would be ok after continuously exercize. She said my pup was ok. Should I worry or not?? Have you heard of this? Is there a name for it? Thanks

Answer
Hello Sharon,
The ligament you are talking about is called the cruciate ligament and is located around the dogs knee.  Sometimes in puppies this ligament doesn't grow properly and needs to be "stretched" out by working it.  Walking the dog in sand or letting the dog swim will help stretch the ligament back to normal.  I am sure that there is a scientific name for it out there somewhere, but I couldn't find very much info about it than I already know.
If the Vet said that your puppy is fine I wouldn't worry, but you might keep an eye on her as she grows through her puppy months just to be on the safe side.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
