Question
Hi. I've noticed my 5 yr. old white Toy Poodle hair is thinning dramatically.  Her skin is pinkish in some areas and very dark, almost black, in others.  She doesn't scratch.  I took her to two different vet's within the last two months for swollen anal glands and neither of them mentioned anything wrong with her thinning hair.  But, it's much thinner now.  Can you help?

Answer
I am not a vet.  I can not diagnosis a skin problem for you.  I would highly recomend you taking your poodle in and having a thyroid pannel done to check that and a skin biopsy to check for possible Sabaceous Adentitis.
The different colors of skin you are seeing is probably normal for your poodle.  Most white poodles will have black or grayish looking skin.  Especially the parts that have been esposed to sunlight.  You can also have pink skinned white (this is a true ice white but you do not see them very oftern) and you can also have what is called parti skinned dogs where you have spots of black in the pinkish skin.  These dogs will normally produce a parti colored dog when bred to a dog that the parti gene also.
