7month poodle pees from excitment

Question
I have a 7mo. female poodle and she gets very excited when she sees any person that is comming from the outside.  will it ever go away?  She is housebroken for the most part; didn't have any problems w/that.  What should I do.  At first we payed attention and patted her, then we decided to ignore her.  Now she has had accidents indoors.  She is now back in the crate.
can you help?

Answer
I believe time and continual reinforcement of  good behavior by telling her what a good girl she is will yield results, but I honestly don't know how long it will take. One thing I've found that seems to help nip negative behavior in the bud is  (you'll think I'm nuts) either using a spray bottle with water in it (spritz her in the face when she starts getting too excited) and say something like "Settle down" or something that she knows means to stop in a low pitched firm voice....or use a pop/beer can with pennies in it (only takes a few) and shake it while saying "No" or "Settle down!" - once again in a low firm voice.  Crate training isn't the worst thing in the world either, and they DO make doggie diapers for dogs with this problem.

I stress using a low pitched voice because if you get upset and speak in a high voice, your poodle (or any dog) gets excited......but if it's a low voice, she hears it more as a growl from the Alpha 'dog' in the house - you.

I have no magic potion, but time, consistency and love will take care of a lot.

Good luck!
