QuestionHi, I have a 1 year old white and apricot toy poodle. I groom her myself but every time I shave her face her skin gets extremely irritated and even causes scabbing. The last time her face was shaved I had a friend who is a professional groomer shave it for me and this was the worst time yet. I had to treat the irritated areas with neosporin and apply soft claws to her back paws to keep her from scratching the scabs open. I never use a blade shorter than a 10. Is there anything I can do to keep her skin from getting so irritated? Thank you!
AnswerHello Caitlin,
The light colored dogs are prone to sensitive skin and can get more irritated than normal. You might try using a longer blade, such as a #9 or an 8 1/2, and after you shave the face apply lotion or aloe to the skin. If irritation continues, continue to apply the neosporin.
If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
