Question
QUESTION: I have a toy poodle, 8 months old and under 3 pounds. She will only eat occasionally and then only a couple of bites. My vet is having me feed her with a syringe. I've tried all kinds of food, wet and dry, and she won't even sniff it. I've tried letting her get hungry enough to eat, but she didn't and got dehydrated and low blood sugar. I've even cooked. What can I do? I'm so worried.

ANSWER: Hello April,
Try several different foods with her.  Use Cottage Cheese, cooked egg, cooked chicken or fish (such as Sardines, tuna, or salmon), one at a time to see if any of these will get her to eat.
If your Vet hasn't already, he should probably do some blood work to see if there is anything wrong medically.  If he can't find anything wrong, you may get a second opinion.
Other than that, I can't be sure why she isn't eating at all.

There is a Vet section on this site that you might try.  I have done some searching and found stuff about dogs not gaining weight, but not anything that tells about a dog losing its appetite.

Wish I could be of further assistance.
Let me know if I can help you with other Poodle questions,
Kim

QUESTION: Thanks for your answer! One more question. Someone suggested a drop of honey on her food, I tried it and she ate it all. However, some people say not to use honey. She only weighs 2.8 lbs. Why would that be a problem or is it?

Answer
Hello again,
Sometimes Honey can cause allergies in dogs.  You might contact your Vet first to see if he/she thinks its alright.
If your dog is doing ok after eating the food with honey on it and with such a small amount she should be ok.
