Min Poodle - panting, trembling, staying very close

Question
Hello Trisha,

I have a 15 y.o. black female min. poodle, named Lexxy and I am concerned about the strange symptoms she expressed this morning.

She came to me and was trembling as if she was cold - but it seemed to me that she may have had a slight fever - she felt warm. I held her close to my body and draped a fleece blanket around her to see if that would resolve the trembling. It did not.

She started to pant hard about 10 minutes later and she became restless - jumped off of my lap but she still followed me around. All the while trembling and panting. I decided to give her one-third of a baby aspirin (her weight is 14 lbs.)

She normally follows me everywhere anyway and even pushes the bathroom door open to get in when I'm in there. Her loyalty is incredible. She has been my rock in the hard times in my life and has brought me SO much happiness and laughter.

The trembling and panting have now stopped and she is resting in her bed. The anxiety is still there but at a much lower level.

Even though this problem has resolved itself I fear that this may happen again. I hope that this is something that you can help me with but I realize these symptoms are a bit strange.

Thank-you SO much for your help!

Answer
Hello Colleen :-)

I am so sorry about your little girl. It sounds like she has had a tough day.

I am glad her symptoms have resolved themselves but she will need to see a Vet as soon as possible for some tests and a examination to see what caused her symptoms and if there is anything physically wrong with her.

Unfortunately Poodles are prone to a variety of medical conditions such as Epilepsy, Diabetes, etc so it is very difficult to say what could be causing her symptoms.

She definitely needs to see her Vet today or tomorrow if possible incase the symptoms re-appear. You have done everything right for her but give her plenty of fluids and something light to eat, such as Scrambled egg, if she will eat it.

Take care & all the best & please rate/comment me.
