Question
I have a 4 1/2 months old tiny poodle. His fur is thin and straight. I have already shave him twice.  Is there anything I can do to boost his hair growth so it will look thicker and curlier?

Answer
Hello Anita,
Your Poodles hair is straight right now because he is a puppy and has puppy hair.  It will stay straight until his adult hair grows in in about 5 months (they usually get their adult hair around 9-11 months of age).
On a side note, you need to watch his hair when the adult hair starts to come in.  The puppy hair is straight, but the adult hair is more curly and when it grows in, it can become tangled into the puppy hair causing mats.  Be sure to keep your puppy combed out really good paying special attention to his under arms (front and back) and groin area because these mat most.

Also, you didn't say what color he is, but this can make a difference as to whether his hair will be thicker or thinner.  The Red/Apricot/Cream colored dogs tend to have a softer coat and it tends to be thinner than their other colored kin.

One thing that you can do to encourage your Poodles hair to curl is to wash it, then let it dry rather than blowdry it.  By letting it dry naturally, you encourage the curls to form rather than blowing the hair straight.
I also use a conditioner on my dogs hair that helps it hold curl.
Sally's Beauty Supply carries a couple of products that I like to use on my Poodles.  One is Silk Elememts Glossing Polish and the other is Silk Elements Glossing Spray.
Just a little goes a long way and they really make the coat curl and shine.
If you don't have a Sally's Store in your area, check at other Beauty Stores around town.

Well, I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.
