Puppy changing colour

Question
Hi there I have a little four month old Poodle Maltese cross. He was dark brown when I got him at 8 weeks old, but he has since started to lighten considerably. At the roots of his fur he is tan and in some places almost white. Is it common for puppies to change colour so drastically and so quickly?
Many thanks

Answer
Hello Jin,
Actually, its fairly common in a lot of breeds.  Silver Poodles for example, are born black and turn Silver as they age.  Dalmation puppies are born totally white, and get their spots around 8-10 weeks of age.

Depending on what color your puppies parents are, your dog could be any shade of light brown or apricot.

If you would like to send me a picture of your dog, I can take a look at him and see if I can guess as to what color he will end up.
