Question

Let me know when you a
Red Standard...   are they truly shy as opposed to other color poodles. What are dark silver like in temperment... love that color as well.

Answer
Hey,
I have had several Red litters and they do tend to be a bit on the reserved side compared to some of the other colors.  Silvers tend to be more protective rather than shy, and both colors need lots of socialization to help overcome their aloofness towards other people.
I have a Red male Poodle that was shy when he was younger, but knowing that I wanted him to be a people dog I had everyone I met stop and give Cajun a treat and lots of petting.  He quickly learned that people didn't want to harm him, but rather wanted to shower him with love.  He warmed up quickly after that and I turned him into an Awesome Therapy dog.  I can take him into hospitals and nursing homes now and he goes to each person in turn to get his pets from them and loves it.  The thing I like most about the Red color is that they truly love to be loved.  They tend to be the couch dog that will get up and snuggle with you best.  I know my Cajun boy was a cuddler from the time he was born, and still is right there with me when I sit down on the couch.

My Silver boys (I have 2 brothers and their father), tend to be very protective and will bark ferociously if anyone rings the bell, but once the people come through the door my boys still bark but not aggressively.  Away from the house, my Silver boys will let people pet them as long as I am there and am comfortable with the people around me.

Talk to you soon,
Kim
