Pink pigment developing

Question
We have a six month old Shorkie that started developing this small pink spot on her bottom lip four days ago. We thought she got shocked from this toy that had this sound box in it from pets mart that she chewed out. But the spot is getting bigger. It went from the size of a small BB to the size of a regular size marble. We don't think she got shocked now since it's getting bigger. What could it be?

Answer
Hello Ryan,
It could just be a spot where her lip isn't getting the pigmentation that it needs to stay dark like the rest of her mouth.  If she is a light colored dog, such as cream or white, then her mouth may turn a liver color or lighter, or it can get spots in it.  You sometimes see it in dogs that have patches of color on them such as a Brown and White Shih-Tzu.  The patch color can also be found in the pigmentation around the eyes and mouth.
Sometimes skin injuries can also cause Pigmentation loss and therefore discoloration in the skin, but since it is getting bigger so long after the shock, its probably due to her coloration or from other dogs in her background.

If it changes any or gets much bigger you might contact your Vet just to rule anything out like Skin cancer, but she should be ok.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions/concerns/comments about this, please feel free to ask.
