Toy Poodle afraid of men

Question
I adopted a toy poodle from a breeder. At first she was very fearful and shook
all the time.  Now she barks at my husband and son everytime they come
near her or me. She is housetrained but does not like to go potty for my
husband.  he is home more than I am and she hides in the house when he
tries to get her to go out and go potty. She has accidents inside the house
and we have not been able to regulate her potty schedule. When I am home
on the weekends, we go out at least every 2 hours and she does fine.  My
husband does not like to put her in the crate because he feels he is the bad
guy when he does this.

In addition, she will not eat for him.  She waits until I get home in the evening
to eat.  She has bonded really well with me and has anxiety issues when I
leave the house or even when I go outside without her.

We have gone through obedience training and she needs more work, but she
will not sit or stay for my husband and runs away and hides under the couch
or in one of her safe places.  We have had her for about 8 months.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer
This poodle was not properly socialized to men or that she was hurt by a man.  She may never like men.  Some dogs that have been abused by men will never come around no matter how hard you work with them. You do not want to push the issue with her.  You have to let her come around in her own time if she will.  This dog was not a good choice for you and your family.  The breeder should have realized that and picked another dog for you.  I would suggest finding a dog behaviorist in your area and having that person come and work with you.  I do worry though that you have had her for 8 months and she hasnt come around more than she is.  Far be it for me to suggest people give up but it may be that the best thing to do it to find a home for her with no men and finding yourself a well socialized puppy from a reputable breeder.  Not every dog is suited for every family.
