Question
Hello... i was wondering if there is a such poodle that is not a solid color. Are there poodles with spots? Please write back thank you.

Answer
Hello JJ,
The Orginal Standard Poodle orginated in Germany and Europe and flourished as a Water Retriever long before we saw them in the USA. Though it seems that there have always been the Black and White Parti colored Poodles in Germany and Europe, when they were brought here, Black colored dogs and White colored dogs were the predominate colors. Now in addition to the Black and White Solid colors, there are also Silver, Red, Apricot, Cream, Brown, and Cafe'A Lauit that are recongnized by the AKC (American Kennel Club).

So to answer your question, Yes there are Poodles with more than one color.  There are the Parti colored (patches of White and another color), Phantom Colored (Solid colored body with another color on the face, chest and lower legs, they are marked like a Doberman) Brindle (can be either a dark color with light stripes or a reverse Brindle with a light colored body with dark stripes), Tuxido (Solid colored body with a white chest and a "collar" around the neck) and Mismark (solid color with a patch of white on the chest).

You don't see many of the "Colored" dogs because solid colored breeders don't like them and the AKC didn't accept them until very recently.  They still don't allow them to be shown in the Breed ring, but you can show them in Obedience and Agility.  In Germany and Europe, they are allowed to be shown in Conformation along with the Solid colored dogs.

Here is a website that has Colord dogs for you to see:

The puppies in the circle frame on the "Puppies" Page are Brindles.

You can also see some Parti Pictures at my Parti Standard Poodles site:

I hope this answers your question.  If you have other questions about the Parti Standard Poodles, or other questions in general, please feel free to ask.

Have a great day, and Many "Spotted" Tail Wags.
