How do you know if your dog has allergies?

My poodle is always licking himself. He wakes me up in tha middle of the night licking himself. Is this normal? Does he have allergies...is that why he does that? Please E-mail me back as soon as you can.

Many dogs do lick themselves alot and it might be dry skin or allergies. You may want to get some Benadryl for children and an oral syringe and try giving him some to see if it stops the licking. Several ccs should be enough for a small dog. If he continues, you may want to try a moisturizing shampoo.

That's the best advice I can give. Sometimes it is just trial and error.
