Question
My toy poodle is 2 years old now and no matter how short I keep his nails trimmed, they still manage to break or completely come out. Is there some reason for this that you know of?

Answer
Hello Danni,
This could be due to genetics or his diet.  He may need more keratin (which is what our bodies use for nails and hair) in his diet.  You can provide keratin by giving your dog a sprinkle (about a Teaspoon or so) of unflavored gelatin in his food twice a week until you see some improvement.

You can also buy something called "Soft Claws" Toenail Covers for dogs that go over your dogs nails and protect them (and your furnature) from damage.  You can find them at www.softclaws.net

I hope this has helped you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
