poodle breath

Question
ok this isn't specifically a poodle thing but it does concern my 2 year old standard poodle. In the last few months I have noticed his breath being kind of bad.  He only eats dog food except for the very occasional scrap he sneaks off a plate left unattended, but he has a habit of taking things like paper towels, pieces of paper and things like that and eating them before we are able to get them from him sometimes (he pretty much swallows them whole as we are chasing him around) Most things at some point he throws up or poops out. He has a good appetite and regular bowel movements. Is this just regular doggie breath or could it be something serious??? Also, how can we stop him from eating the paper products? We do our best to keep them out of reach but sometimes he still manages to find stuff.

thanks

Answer
I could be dog breath.  However none of my standards have bad breath at all.  Your dog may be in need of a teeth cleaning.  If he is throwing up stuff a lot then he probably has a lot of problems from that.  The stomach acid is very hard on tooth enamel.
You really need to do some serious doggy proffing of the house.  One day he is going to get something caught in his system that you will have to have removed surgically.
I would highly suggest getting more toys and some interesting toys that will keep him occupied for periods of time.  If he is getting into things he shouldnt that to me says he is bored and needs something to do.  You could also try teaching him tricks to occupy his time rather than chasing him around.  I would certainly teach him to sit and stay as one of the first things that way if he has something he shouldnt then you can get it from him.
