Question
heres an update on my teacup poodle with hair loss. its been a few weeks and most of her hair is gone except her head and legs but a wavy coat is growing in except in one spot on her back. its a brown irregualr shape and it doesnt have any wavy hair growth.  I also just noticed today a drk brown mole thing spot on her patchy haired tail.  im waiting another week to see what changes occur then im off to the dermatologist.  does this seems normal? im worried its black skin disease:(  I wonder if the wavy coat is goin to break or fall out too!  i just got her from the pet store one month ago too:(  they wont exchanger her either...  any thoughts?

Answer
Hello again Melissa,
You might think about contacting a lawyer to see about the Pet Store replacing your dog if you want to go that route.  If you want to keep her, you might talk to him about the Pet Store paying for her to go to the Vet.  Since you only got her a month ago, it was most likely already going on at the Pet Store.  She just happened to lose her hair after you got her.
A lawyer will find out if there is a way to make them pay for you to get her looked at.

Since she is so young, you can't yet tell what the adult hair will look like.  She might grow in some healthy adult hair.
Get her on that diet now to see if it helps her skin to re-grow healthy hair.  If it doesn't seem to improve her puppy hair growth, wait till she turns 8 months old to put her on the diet again.  You can feed her her regular food until she starts growing in her adult hair.

Here is a Website for Black Skin Disease:

Talk to your lawyer and see what he/she has to say about it.  If you can get them to pay for the exam, ask the Vet if it has been going on for a month or more.  If he says yes, get him to write it down so you can prove that your dog had this at the Pet Store and to write anything else down that is of importance about what he finds out.  Your Vet should be able to check and see if it is Black Skin Disease or other similar conditions.
When you find out what your dog has, check to see if it is genetic.  The Pet Store would be responsible for a refund for selling a dog with a genetic problem.

I hope you get something out of this.  If I can help you more, let me know.

Kim.
