2 8 month old toy poodles fighting

Question
I got Barney when he was 9 weeks old. He has received all of his shots and was neutered at 6 months. He has been the only dog until last week, when the breeder called and told me Barney's litter mater was returned because his owner could not care for him. I picked up "Fred" (8 months old), he was not groomed (matts all over him) he was infested with fleas, had not received any shots and was not neutered. I immediately got Fred groomed and made an appointment to get his shots and neutered. Both Fred and Barney got along well the first week. I keep them separate during the day when I am at work, but since getting Fred neutered two days ago, they seem to get into bad fights. Mainly when they are both under my chair between my legs or over a toy or chew item. I've thrown away the toys they seem to fight over, but it seems they are both also fighting over me! What can I do to get these male litter mates to get along? I give love and affection to both of them separately when the other is not around. I love both of them and I want to see them get along. Any advise is appreciated.

Answer
Sometimes boys will just be boys.  They're fighting over who will be the alpha dog in the home after you, who is (of course) the ALPHA.  I have 2 dogs that tend to fight now and then. I've found that getting a spray bottle and filling it with water, then when they start fighting, I spritz them in the face with it (it VERY much offends them) and saying "NO" in a low firm voice tends to help.  If you say "No!" in a high voice, they just hear noise and get more excited. The deep pitch will mimic a growl in their minds - and a growl from the ALPHA 'dog' will probably get their attention.  Sometimes you need to add a can (soda or beer) with a few pennies in it and shake it at the same time.  The sound is unpleasant to them.

Finally, if they don't draw blood, sometimes it's best to let them settle the pecking order - the way they do it is by tussling it out.  It is truly a pack mentality thing.  I can't stand that, so I still use the water bottle. It has gotten so all I have to say is "you want me to get the water?" and they settle down.  Mine are both female and spayed.

By the way, sorry this took so long! I forgot to put myself on vacation - I was out of town until today.
I wish you luck!
