Poodles Rocket

Question
My toy poodle is 6 years old and has recently starting licking his rocket..he wont stop. He once got it stuck OUTSIDE his pocket and the vet had to stuff it back in and actually put a stitch in it to keep in in there. Ever since then, it seems his rocket is just too long for his pocket...
Also..our female dog was recently spayed and no longer tries to "mess around with him".
My questions are:
Is it a common thing??
(because its like he just figured out how to work it and wont stop)
and what do i do?
Thanks!

Answer
Hello Cole,
Actually it is common for males to clean their "Rocket".  It is also good for them to do because licking it will help keep it moist.  A dry "rocket" can become irritated and won't slip back into its sheath.

Also, a dog will unsheath his "rocket" to help keep himself cool "down there".  So if you see it out during a hot day, he is just trying to cool himself down.
I wouldn't do anything to stop him from licking "it" unless he is causing it to become inflamed or irritated by his licking.  If this is the case, you should probably contact your Vet to see if there is something he can give you to apply to your dogs "rocket" so he won't lick it so much.

I hope this has helped you some.  If you have other questions or comments, please feel free to ask.
