Toy poodle with bad breath

Question
Dear Kim,
I have a 6 year old toy poodle who has very bad smelling breath because of rotting teeth (I've heard this is common in this breed). I have had him at the vet and he is currently on medication. I've tried brushing his teeth, breath spray, and changing his food. He is also bathed and groomed on a regular basis. Any other ideas? Any help is very much appreciated, thank you.

Answer
Hello Erin,
Unfortunally there is not much else you can get done than what you have already done to help keep your dogs teeth clean other than getting them ultrasonically cleaned by a Vet.  Bad teeth can be caused by alot of things from feeding the dog soft food to heiredity, and by even just doing nothing for the dogs teeth.  Even when you take good care of the dogs teeth, sometimes factors are just right for the teeth to still be bad.
Having the rotten teeth pulled, having the Vet clean them yearly, and doing what you can as far as brushing the teeth and giving teeth cleaning treats and things are some things you can do to help keep his breath from being so bad.  Other than that, there isn't much that can be done.

You might check into the Pet Kiss Co. at http://petkiss.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_9

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions for me about this, or other questions in general, please feel free to ask.
