Question
I live in South Lake Tahoe and 15 years ago I got two Royals, one 26ish and one 28ish in California. I didn't know about  this CA distain of Royal Poodles.

Why can't I find a Royal Standard Poodle in CA. I can find then all over the country.

Answer
Hello Fay,
I am not sure why there isn't any Royal Standard Poodles listed in CA.  I do know that most people don't consider them "Royal", but rather just a Standard Poodle.  The AKC considers any Poodle over 15" at the shoulder a Standard, so many people will just sell their "Royal" and "Giant" sized poodles as Standards.  If you see a kennel that you are intereted in, in CA, you might let them know that you are wanting a larger sized Poodle and see what they say about that.  I am sure there are people in CA that sell their dogs as "Royal", but maybe just don't post or advertise it.
It is probably like the thing with Brown vs Chocolate colored Poodles.  Show people won't ever call their Brown dogs "Chocolate" colored as it makes them sound like pet breeders.  So most Show people won't call their larger Poodles "Royal" because it isn't heard of in the Show circles.

I hope this has helped you some and if you have other questions about this or other Poodle questions in general, please feel free to ask.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you.  I didn't see the question until it sent me a reminder about it.
