Dog/Puppy Food

Question
I have a 3 Month old female apricot mini poodle that Santa brought us on Christmas ;)  When I picked her up on Christmas Eve, I was given a large bag of Royal Canine puppy food that has now run out.  What food do you recommend?  I realize that is an answer that is probably debated endlessly, but I am a first time owner and would like an expert to chime in.  Also, when should I convert from "Puppy" food to "Dog" food.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Rick

Answer
Hello Rick,
In my opinion it is best to keep the dog on the food that she came with as its what she is used to.  I do understand that that brand may be a bit harder to find and that it is a more expensive food, so you may need to change her food because of these reasons.
I like to recommend dog foods such as Iams, Eukanuba, Bil-Jac, or Sensible Choice because they tend to contain actual meat rather than meat meal and they have less corn than some of the supermarket brands.  Iams is a good food that you can usually buy at Wal-Mart and many dogs do very well on it.

When switching from puppy to adult, its best to wait until the dog is 6-9 months.  Some people wait until the dog is a year old, but smaller dogs tend to mature more quickly than the larger breeds.

I hope this has helped you some.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask me.
