Question
Hello and thank you for your time,

I was just wondering, we recently had to put our dog of 12 years down due to health reasons, and I was just wondering what happens after they are put down? Where do they put the dog and what do they do? I know it's probably not pretty, but i would like to know to, well, help with closure. thnnks,  michi

Answer
Hi Hun :-)

I am very sorry for your loss. When a Dog is put to sleep, a injection is given and the Dog gently and quickly goes into a deep sleep and passes away without any pain or discomfort. After the Dog has passed away, Vetinarians usually give the owner a choice as to whether they would like to take the remains home or if they would like Cremation performed. If this option isn't given, then Cremation is usually performed and the owner can ask for the ashes if they wish.

Take care and all the best.
