Age of male for breeding

Question
Should stud dog be a certain age before using for breeding?  Thank you.

Answer
By AKC ruling a male must be atleast 7 months of age before they will register a little that he has sired.  But that doesnt mean that every dog is ready at 7 mo.  Some mature slower and take longer.  It all depends upon the dog and the breed of the dog.  Then you have a whole lot of questions you should ask yourself about breeding too.  Like is my male close enough to the breed standard that he is breeding material.  Do I know enough of his background and history to breed him.  Do I know of any health issues in the lines that I should be concerned about?  Is the female I am going to breed him to right for him and will ofset his faults?  Is she proper for breeding and also close to the breed standard?  Am I really ready to go into breeding?  I am ready for the expense and the responsibilities?  Just some questions to consider before breeding.  Its not for everyone at all.  And I can tell you it is NOT a money making venture at all.  You are lucky if you even break even.
