Question
I have a 12 year old standard poodle. He has had many gastric problems. A few years ago he got bloat I mamaged to save him. He had surgery. He has had 2 bouts of pancretitis. I have tried all foods to help him put on weight. Consulted vets etc. He has to have a low fat diet takes viokase with meals I feed him x2 day.
Any help would be really apreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hello Carole,
You might try adding some of the superfoods to his diet to help him out (as long as your Vet says its ok) such as Purple carrots, cooked Purple Potatos, Sweet Potato (either grated or cooked) and a light amount of Salmon, Sardines in Olive Oil, or even Tuna about twice a week.  The Salmon and Sardines have good fats in them and the fish oil is good for his coat.  The Veggies will fill him up and the purple veggies help with inflammation and infection.
You might also consult a Natural or Holistic Vet to see about suppliments or natural additives you can add to his food to help him put weight on.
If you are concerned about giving your dog medicine, you can buy Milk Thistle to help his Liver. (it helps it process and rid itself of medications that are known to be hard on the liver)

Consult your Vet about this first, but if he gives the OK. try it out.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
