Red Standard Poodle

Question
Hello,

My name is Daniel and I have a 13 week old standard poodle. He is a beautiful red and I was wondering if his color will remain the same throughout his life. My groomer told me that because the roots of his hair is actually darker than the surface, he will more than likely become a shade or two darker with age. Is this true?

When you get an opportunity please let me know

Answer
Hello Daniel,
Since the Red color is due to a fading gene, chances are that your Poodle will fade some as he ages.  The fade tends to be a slow change however so you will have many years of that beautiful Red color before it fades to a lighter Red, which is not bad looking either.
Your dog could darken some before he starts to lighten, but only time will tell that.

Congradulations on your Red Puppy (I love the Red Standard Poodles because they tend to be very Sweet and Loving).
If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask.
