fur discoloration and stains; orange paws ;

Hi!
My 6 year old toy poodle, Cuddles is silver, and lately she's been having spots change from silver to a rusty brown color. She constantly licks herself, and I know that's probably what has been causing the discoloration. She has been doing better with not licking as much, but my question is this. Will her fur ever go back to silver or is the discoloration permanent?

That discoloration is from being wet. Dogs with white hair around the mouth will get the orange color from the mouth being wet (drooling, drinking)  Excessive licking the paws will turn them orange or rust in color:

Hi Ashley, This discoloration can be cause by allergies and licking.  Also, if the diet is lacking iron you can get a rusty discoloration.

Your groomer can cut off the rusty-brown hair.  This will happen again if your poodle doesn't have enough iron in the diet.  Also, if the excessive licking was due to allergies the discolorations will come back:

To help with this try the following:

Add some Salmon oil to her diet: just 1/4 teaspoon daily -mixed into the food.
You can do this long term.

Add NuVET plus supplement to her program.  This vitamin supplement will help with the allergies and excessive licking.
