Question
Hello, I bought a 2 year old female poodle she turned 2  Jan. 2008, I bought her from a  breeder for the purpose of me breeding her, the previous owner said her last heat cycle was April, 2008, the former owner said her heat cycle could be knocked off due to stress due to the move to a new home, she still have not come into heat, is it true her heat cycle  can be off due to stress because her moving from one home to another..

Answer
Hello Crystal,
Yes, stress can cause a dog to put off their heat cycle by as much as 2-3 months.  Not being healthy, or being in a very active situation can also throw off their cycle.

On the other hand, a female dog that is in the presence of another female that is in heat will sometimes come into heat just by being around the other female.

You might want to get her looked at by your Vet just to be on the safe side though and while she is there, have him do a pre-breeding exam to make sure that she doesn't have anything that she could pass on to the puppies.

I hope I helped you some.  If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.
