miniature poodle exercise

Question
Hello again Brandie,
I have been reading different things about exercise requirements for poodles, some people say they are very active, some say they are not. My 3 month old puppy drags me for 30 - 45 minute walks. Then, when we go back indoors, she's running around playing with the cats. I am perfectly fine and happy with this energy level but was wondering if I should cut back. Will I hurt her bones? On the other hand, she has all this energy...she can go on and on and on if I didn't stop her. From your experiences, what would be a healthy amount of walking for a mini poodle pup. AND THANKS AGAIN!!!

Answer
Hi Debbie,
Sounds like your little girl is a healthy active puppy - that is an indication of just that - good health and happiness.  All of my poodles are quite active and full of life.  As she gets older she will of coarse slow down some just like we do ;0)  Taking nice long walks, as long as she isn't over heating and straining herself is great.  All of that energy when she comes in (playing with the cats) tells me she surly hasn't over done it.  I'm sure she sleeps good when it's rest time.  The only thing I would caution you with would be long jogging or biking with your puppy or even when she is an adult dog.  Poodles will go and go and cannot sweat so panting is the only way they have to release heat and they quickly can become dehydrated.  That isn't the case here - enjoy your walks and your healthy very happy little girl!
