QuestionI just got a 4 month old silky-poo. My friend told me that I need to regularly express the anal glands so it doesn't get impacted. A lot of people I have asked have never heard of this. Also potty training is going great for the peeing, but he never poops on the piddle pad. I have tried to rub a little of his poop on the pad so he gets the idea. I always praise him and usually give him about a third of a t-bonz when he goes on the pad.
AnswerI would leave the anal glands alone as long he doesn't seem to have problems. The scooting is a sign of problems. Sometime licking or scratching is a sign too.
If you are feeding him on a regular schedule, he should develop a regular bowel movement schedule. Watch for the sniffing and running in small circles. Take him to to pad and then praise him and treat him like you said. I think at that age, they have much less warning than a full bladder gives them.
