Question
Hello,
I have an 8 week old toy poodle. Every time she eats or drinks she gaggs, sometimes she even regurgitates the food she has just eaten and chews it again. could she have something wrong. Other than this she seems healthy.
Vicki

Answer
Hello Vicki,
It could be a couple of things.  Watch her eat and see if she is eating fast.  If she is gulping her food this could make her gag, and also watch to see if she inhales air when she eats as this can also cause gagging.
Also, is she eating a food designed for little dogs or is it a normal kibble size.  She could be having trouble chewing the larger pieces of food and is having to bring them back up to chew them better.  Or on the other side of that, if she is eating a small kibble, she might not be chewing them as well because they are already small and so is swallowing several per bite rather than chewing them throughly.

The other thing it could be is that she has some obstruction in her throat that would be causing this, but I would check with the above issues first.  If nothing seems wrong with the way she is eating her food, then you might want to take her to the Vet to be sure there is nothing physically wrong with her throat.

I hope this helps you some.  If you have other questions about this, or other Poodle questions in general, Please feel free to ask.
